Lead Diuranate, PbU2O7

Lead Diuranate, PbU2O7, is said to be formed when uranyl acetate solution is digested with freshly precipitated lead carbonate; when ammonia is added to a mixture of uranyl and lead nitrate solutions, and when lead acetate and uranyl nitrate solutions are mixed together. It is described as a yellowish red precipitate, soluble in acetic acid, which turns brown on heating, and when reduced in hydrogen yields pyrophoric lead and uranous oxide, UO2.

The following salts have been obtained by Zehenter:

Pb(C2H3O2)2.UO2(C2H3O5)2.3H2O,

which on ignition yields PbUO4 as a reddish brown crystalline mass;

2PbU2O7.5H2O, Pb5U9O32.10H2O, Pb4U5O19.4H2O;

also [Pb(C2H3O2)2.3UO3. 2H2O]3H2O, which yields PbU3O10 on ignition.
