Basic Lead Iodides

Various basic lead iodides have been described; they are formed by the action of potassium iodide solution on lead hydroxide, or of alkali hydroxide or ammonia on lead iodide: PbI₂.PbO.H₂O, PbI₂.2PbO, PbI₂.PbO.2H₂O, PbI₂.3PbO.H₂O, PbI₂.3PbO.2H₂O, 2PbI₂.9PbO.2H₂O, PbI₂.5PbO.7H₂O, PbI₂.6PbO.2H₂O.

The basic chloriodide PbI₂.PbCl₂.PbO, which has been prepared artificially, occurs as the mineral schwarzenbergite.
